Medications are effective as far as the users are consuming them according to prescription.  The problems appear when the user is not following prescription and uses a prescription medication on his/her own.  When the user is not careful regarding dosage, there is a possibility that the user may encounter a range of side effects.

Some side effects that are common to the use of Ambien (Zolpidem) and may be encountered during the initial days of dosage are headache, nausea, sleepiness, memory problems, hallucinations, diarrhea, and abuse.  You must tell your doctor/medical representative immediately if you experience side effects like mood swings, mental changes, hallucinations, aggressive behavior, agitation, anxiety, confusion, depression, thoughts of suicide, etc.  There is little possibility that with the use of Zolpidem, the user may encounter severe allergic reactions like rash, itch, swelling of face, tongue, or throat, trouble breathing, and severe dizziness.

The most common side effect associated with the short-term use of Ambien is a headache and with the long-term use, the side effect associated is drowsiness.  Infections associated with respiration are also common.  Other side effects that are not common are night eating syndrome, sleepwalking, and perform other tasks relating to the daily routine.

Ambien (Zolpidem) is a hypnotic drug and with its use, the user must make sure that the risk of intoxication is always there.  The user must only consume the quantity that is required.  The user must make very sure that he/she must not drive the next day if he/she takes Ambien (Zolpidem) in the night.

Ambien is to be contraindicated in people with severe liver disease, respiratory depression, obstructive sleep apnea, children, and people with psychotic illness.  The user must make very sure not to take Ambien (Zolpidem) if he/she is addicted to any other drug.  The medicine is not to be used by older people as their body may not be able to handle the strong effects of Zolpidem.
